Welcome to my newly redesigned site. I am very proud of this new look, and I thought I would spend some time describing a few goals I had in mind when I set about designing this version of the site. The first was the idea of progressive enhancement, and the second was an attempt to create a very sophisticated and high quality design.
Progressive enhancement is a design philosophy that is basically the opposite of how one would intuitively approach a site design. When designing for progressive enhancement, you start by building a bare-bones version of the site that will be usable by everybody, and then you add CSS and JavaScript on top of that. If you work that way, a site can very easily be made so that users of more limited browsers can still use every feature of the site, but they will have an enhanced experience if they use a more modern browser.
This site is not just a tech-demo showcasing new ways of building a site, however. No, it's also meant to scream quality with every pixel. Never before have I agonized over every little detail as I have with this design. I wanted something that had a very professional, sharp, high-end look to it. You be the judge, but I think I pulled it off pretty well. I am very proud indeed of this design.
