It's been just over a week since the iPhone SDK launched and I haven't said a word, which has been eating at me, so here I am.
The app distribution could hardly be more ideal, in my opinion. Having an app store in iTunes would have been great, but right on the device itself? You can't do better than that. The fact that every iPhone and iPod touch owner will be able to buy apps right on their devices is a dream scenario.
I have absolutely no problem with the 70/30 split. Since Apple is making my apps accessible to the entire install base, as well as managing all the details of operating a store, I think the ratio is totally fair.
I really don't think I can be effusive enough in my praise of the distribution model Apple has set up. I think that this is going to be huge, particularly so now that it's been revealed that there have been 100,000 downloads of the SDK. 100,000 represents about 2% of the iPhone install base. I've been privately estimating what I felt I could expect to earn from selling apps. I figured it was reasonable to assume that 1 in 10 iPhone/iPod touch owners would be exposed to an app (through browsing the app store) during its first bit of time on the store, and then 1 in 100 who saw it would actually buy it. I'm now thinking that assumption may be rather conservative.

Hey, I would just like to open by saying that I absolutely loved sunset. You Donald, are the first person to ever develop a 3D based game on the iphone/touch web application system! i have to give you props for that! But I am a little puzzled in one matter. You didn't explain in the statement about what the name of the website is thst will be distributing the new SDK games. I look very much forward to playing more games like sunset on my device, and I hope that you will respond to my question byemsiling me back!
Thanks again for revolutionizing the itouch gaming world as we know it,
Alex
